SHIPS DIRECTLY FROM MANUFACTURER [Benco Sales]

#B17 IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE PRODUCT AVAILABLE FOR THE REMOVAL OF POWDER COATING!

DESCRIPTION:

  • Benco B17 Industrial paint remover is a liquid, non flammable remover widely used to remove durable coatings from steel and aluminum.
  • B17 is the most aggressive formulation developed by Benco Sales for the removal of technologically advanced coatings designed for extreme durability and chemical resistance.
  • Epoxy coatings, powder coatings, electro-coat coatings, polyurethanes, and UV/EB coatings are rapidly removed by submersion in B17.
  • B17 is also effective on recently developed ceramic coatings.
  • B17 is an industrial strength powder coating stripper product that helps remove paint from the toughest applications.

APPLICATION:

  • Apply Benco #B17 by submerging item in the stripper. Do not apply by a flow or continuous flow pump system. Application by brush may be appropriate for smaller items.
  • Immerse and allow product to strip all coatings prior to removal.
  • For items with multiple coatings, one application will remove multiple coatings. If one application does not remove all coatings, immerse again immediately and residual coatings should be rapidly removed.
  • If the product has dried on the surface, reapply a coat of stripper prior to removal of finish for best results.
  • Stripped finishes can be removed with a scraper or brush, although brushing is not necessary on most items.
  • Removed finishes with stripper can be reapplied to extend the life of the stripper.
  • Once finishes are removed from the surface, submerge into a water bath. Keep the pH in water bath between 8-10.
  • the most effective water bath is a heated bath to 104 degrees F, which will also flash off Methylene Chloride, leaving no residual Methylene Chloride in the water bath.
  • The water bath is important to trap trace chemicals, and aid in neutralizing any acids caught in crevices.
  • After water bath, remove and rinse.
  • DO NOT USE on magnesium surfaces. (Benco B14 is safe for magnesium).
  • Use extreme caution with this product, as it will severely burn skin and eyes on contact. Consult the SDS for more specific product and safety information.
  • In most cases, aluminum parts are cleaned sufficiently for re-coating.
  • Steel parts may flash rust after stripping, and a rust inhibitor like Benco G21 can be applied to prevent flash rusting.
  • The rust inhibitor is easily removed with soap and water prior to re-coating.

BEST PRACTICES:

  • B17 is best used in a well-ventilated isolated area in an HDPE tank or heavy gauge steel tank with a cover.
  • it is acceptable for the stripping tank to be located outside if no sunlight can reach the tank and if temperatures do not exceed 104 degrees F.
  • Since B17 contains methylene chloride, it should not be used in any area where contact with a gas flame or electric heating element can occur.
  • While non-flammable, contact with gas flames or electric heating elements can break apart methylene chloride into chloride and phosgene fumes that are hazardous and can corrode heating systems.
  • The best heating system for the stripping area is infared heating where the element temperature is less than 1000 degrees F.
  • Infrared heat is widely avialable and is very efficient because it heats the individual item rather than the air.

#B17 will rapidly and possibly irreversibly burn on skin contact, so it is essential that proper safety equipment be used in all facets of handling #B17. Essential safety equipment includes:

  • Ventilation: Controlling airborne concentrations below the OSHA TLV exposure guideline is recommended. OSHA TWA is 25ppm. OSHA STEL is 125 ppm for 15 minutes. OSHA Action level is 12.5 ppm. Use only with adequate ventilation. Local exhaust ventilation is necessary for most applications. Lethal concentrations may exist in areas with poor ventilation.
  • Respiratory Protection: Atmospheric levels should be maintained below the exposure guideline. If this level is exceeded, use an approved continuous flow air
  • Skin Protection: Wear chemical resistant rubber gloves, apron, boots, and plastic arm sleeves. Appropriate chemical resistant gloves are butyl rubber or chlorinated treated natural rubber (such as electrical lineman’s) gloves.
  • Eye Protection: Use safety glasses. Where contact is likely, use chemical splash goggles and a safety visor.
